On June 24th 2009, Questscope joined with 850 Iraqi refugees to celebrate the World Refugee Day. Organized by Questscope and hosted at a local YMCA center, the event brought together multiple communities for 8 hours of fun and family time.
Parents enjoyed talking with each other and relaxing, while their kids participated in a full day of activities including face painting, balloon animals, kite flying, kitting, and races (even some parents snuck into the face painting booth!).
The day came to a close with a beautiful concert by the famous Iraqi singer Saif Shaheen. During the performance, it was hard to spot a face without a smile, as conversations over dinner and the music turned acquaintances into friends. By the end of the music, it seemed everyone had joined in Arab dance of Debkeh, evoking fond memories of past days in their home-country.
When it was time to leave, everyone left carrying not only the presents given to their children, but also newfound memories of one of the most enjoyable experience since they were forced to leave their country and childhood dreams.
