HEALTH & WELL-BEING

An important growth area for Questscope is refugee mental health, as there are few resources to assist the 65

Public health is an important foundation for community well-being. Without access to proper primary care and basic health services, it is impossible for people to move beyond the urgency of meeting their most basic needs.

In fragile communities, health isn’t just about building clinics and providing medication – though that is also important – its about having the human resources to care for people in dire need.

In places of conflict and poverty, the social fabric that normally holds communities together can fray apart. Unless communities and relationships are built up, key knowledge and wisdom about things as simple as basic self-care stops being passed from one generation to another.

Factors like education, employment opportunities, living conditions, and social support all have major impacts on health outcomes. Questscope is interested in helping people develop themselves through relationships. And through that, building and reinforcing communities.

Health Points

The Syrian Society for Social Development, our Syrian national partner, has established direct health services and community-based initiatives that prioritize vulnerable groups, such as women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

Health Points offer primary preventative and curative health services to all ages, plus referral services for patients needing higher level care. A community-based team at each health point conducts health education and outreach, and they detect and report health problems in the community.

Mobile health teams carry health awareness sessions to the community, so they can participate in health initiatives. Additionally, medical equipment is provided to persons with war related injuries, persons with disabilities, and the elderly.

Refugees in Germany

Questscope is in the unique position of being in contact with up to 100 Syrian refugees in Germany who are familiar with our social development and relief activities in Jordan and Syria. This community of people constitutes a starting point to catalyze a voluntary network of highly trained Syrian newcomer leaders, linked to Germany civil society partners, towards the implementation of evidence-based, scalable, and impactful pilot projects in Berlin. We’re currently implementing the Me/We program – which began at our Youth Center in the Za’atari Refugee Camp and promotes a guided practice of healing through creativity and personal expression.

Psycho-Social Counseling and Trauma Assistance

Psychosocial Counseling is offered to individuals, families, and groups as they struggle with war-related psychological pressures and trauma. Were also developing new approaches to assist the 70 million displaced persons globally whose lives have been shattered by personal suffering and loss.

The Field Guide for Barefoot Psychology is an educational and self-care tool developed by Beyond Conflict, a partner organization, for addressing trauma to foster mental wellbeing.

Our Syrian refugee leaders in Jordan’s Za’atari Refugee Camp inspired its creation and continue to drive its innovation. Me/We is another initiative that began at our Youth Center in Za’atari. It promotes a guided practice of healing through creativity and personal expression.

Protection

Violence against women and girls is often the result of the breakdown of community structures and the trauma created by displacement. This kind of violence can be even more challenging for populations affected by armed conflict and humanitarian emergencies.
